ISPA Awards deadline and ceremony date announced

The deadline for the 2014 ISPA Awards has passed and entrants now have until 28th March to complete the written entry forms, whilst broadband and hosting entrants will undergo 10 weeks of technical testing via our testing partner Thinkbroadband. Malden Electronics will be testing the Best VoIP award.We can also confirm the ceremony will be in the Park Lane Hotel in London on 10th July 2014, and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.There are still opportunities to sponsor the awards with re-designed sponsor packages and the ISPAs are a great way to meet senior figures from across the British internet industry.The Best VoIP Award is sponsored by Magrathea and the Internet Hero and Internet Villain Awards are sponsored by fulfilment specialists NetLynk Direct.

The 2014 Safer Internet Day is on 11th February and ISPA members will be active in a number of areas, including taking part in a live event on BBC Radio 1. ISPA assists ISPs with Connection Vouchers scheme

ISPA helped co-ordinate an event with Leeds and Bradford City Councils this month for ISPs looking to register for the Leeds-Bradford and York ‘Connection Voucher’ schemes.This government scheme is designed to help SMEs pay for the costs of installing superfast internet as part of the Super-connected Cities project.A number of ISPs attended, and we’d like to thank Kate Rennicks from Metronet UK for representing ISPA and Chairing the Q&A from potential suppliers and council officers.

ICANN Issues Advice on Name Collision Identification and Mitigation

ICANN, the international body responsible for oversight of the Internet’s Domain Name System (DNS), has issued advice to on identifying and managing “domain name collisions”.With up to 1,300 new generic Top Level Domains (TLDs) being introduced over the next year, the report addresses some concerns that a number of applied-for new TLDs may be identical to names used in private name spaces.The report, along with additional useful information and resources, can be found at: http://www.icann.org/en/help/name-collision
